A guide for individuals and families

Choosing care.
A clearer way forward.

Take time to ask questions, understand the choices and decide what feels right for you.

Start with everyday life

Think about the parts of your day that work well and the moments when help would make a difference. Your preferred routines, interests and personal choices are as important to the conversation as the tasks you need assistance with.

  • What would you like to continue doing independently?
  • When would a helping hand be most useful?
  • Who would you like involved in planning your support?
  • Are there particular communication or cultural preferences to consider?

Understand the service you are considering

Ask the care provider to explain exactly what they can offer, which tasks are included and what falls outside the arrangement. Discuss who will visit, how preferences are recorded and who to contact if circumstances change.

Make the practical details clear

Before agreeing to care, ask about visit arrangements, availability, charges, cancellation terms and how any changes would be handled. Ask for information in a format you can understand and take time to consider it.

Prepare for a home visit

Write down your main questions and let us know who you would like present. You can talk about your routine, the support you are looking for and the things you want to protect about life at home. You do not need to send detailed medical information through the website.
